Shows begin in Dallas, TX on October 19th and it will end Wichita, KS on November 4th. In between those cities, they will be visiting Austin, Houston, Atlanta, Nashville, Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, Chicago, St. Louis and Tulsa... phew.

Now who are the men that make up Bears on the Run. You can find out more about them here, but below is the lowdown: There's Bobaloo (website - TubeBear profile), Shannon Grady (website), Matthew Temple (website), Nakia (website - TubeBear profile), Elijah Black (website), and Kendall (website). From the Bears on the Run site: "Over the last few years, outlets like Bear Radio Network, Bearapalooza and Woobie Bear Music, along with a host of supportive Bear runs, bars and podcasts, have given Bear musicians, songwriters and performers a place to share their talents. This fall, 6 performers will head out in a van for the 1st ever Bear tour which will span 12 cities and 7 states including Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma.

The tour is called Bears on the Run and showcases the talents of Bobaloo (a comedian from Los Angeles, CA - TubeBear profile), Kendall (a songwriter and performance artist from Buffalo, NY), Matthew Temple (a folk singer/songwriter from Nashville, TN), Nakia (a Blues singer/songwriter from Austin, TX), Elijah Black (a rock singer and songwriter from Akron, OH) and Shannon Grady (a singer and songwriter from Minneapolis, MN). Along for the ride will be two videographers who will capture performances as well as life backstage and on the road to be edited into a documentary.

The tour's founder Shannon Grady (a singer and co-host of the popular podcast bTALK) hopes that the tour will grow and open up doors for other Bear artists and find new audiences for their work".

It's time to make a dream come true for the dreamy Nakia (website). What's his dream...? Well read on, the following is from Nakia: "When I moved to Austin in 2002 I was fortunate enough to attend the very first Austin City Limits Music Festival. From the moment I walked in the gate, and that very first chord played, I knew one day would be up there on-stage singing my songs & performing to a fan just like me. Since then, ACL has become one of the most important music festivals in the world and this year, I finally have the chance to make my dream of being an ACL performer come true. ACL is giving one artist a chance of a lifetime - to be part of the ACL Festival alongside such acts as Bob Dylan, Bjork, Wilco, The White Stripes, Arcade Fire, Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse, and Lucinda Williams!

So today I am asking for your help. Just click  here to visit my ACL Contest page. Simply type in your email address into the form and input the security code - then click vote.

It's that simple. You can use your email address to vote once per day, so make sure to bookmark the page to use again. I have to be in the Top 100 to move onto Round 2 by August 20th. I am currently number 6 out of 75!

Thanks again for taking the time to read this very special note and I hope you will take a moment to visit the contest site and vote for me today! Then in September, join me the Austin City Limits Festival and enjoy all of the extraordinary talent that they have lined up this year!".

I remember seeing this guy who did wonders with an acoustic guitar on YouTube awhile back - a brawny husky bald guy with a big beard - and thought that he was pretty amazing and kinda cute to boot. Then Nakia (website) emails me and says "have you seen this guy...?" so I decided to mention him since he is seriously talented. Now I have no clue of his sexual orientation and when I have no clue, I'll just assume he's straight and leave it at that, but if you really dig acoustic guitar, then check him out here on YouTube ~ and he has a lot of videos for you to check out. He also has his own website and if you don't have the time to check out all the videos but want to see the most popular ones, well the following is from his Wikipedia page: "Andy McKee is an American acoustic guitarist. His rarely-seen style of playing and compositional talent has earned him a large fanbase; in late 2006, a live performance of his flagship song, 'Drifting' became a Featured Video on YouTube, achieving nearly 5,000,000 views and peaking as the highest rated music clip on the site. In April of '07, another of McKee's songs, 'Rylynn', overtook 'Drifting' as the #1 rated English video of all time on the service, and in May, 'Africa' overtook Rylynn; thus, McKee occupied the top three Music Video slots of YouTube simultaneously".

Here is some good Nakia news for you guy to check out. From his website: "I am all kinds of crazy to tell you that this upcoming Sunday, July 22nd at 7PM and 11PM ME Television will debut an episode of ME Live! featuring yours truly - the one they shot live at Antone's back in April. This was done in HD with 4 cameras and the audio was mixed by the pros out at Bismeaux Studios so you know it’s going to be rock! You won't even have to leave your home. Just turn on ME TV - That’s Channel 15 on Austin’s Time Warner cable - sit back with some peanuts or something tasty like a Moon Pie and a RC Cola and rock it with us on the TV!".

Head on over to Nakia.net to find out all the latest news surrounding this very fine multi-talented entertainer who's based in Austin, TX and is currently performing with his new band the Southern Cousins.

I have one song from him that he did before the Southern Cousins. It's a great remake of an old George Michaels song called One More Try. It's better than the original, imho. And here's one more song for you to download. It's from his latest CD Playing The Cards (CDBaby) and the tune is called Texas Crescent Moon.

Here are some recent photos of Nakia and the Southern Cousins (and friends) at the 2007 SXSW Music Festival.

"Woof... what a Bear... Woof... what a Bear..."

That's how they greet you over at the BearPodCast, a podcast hosted by the man with the softest masculine voice on the net - 'the Nard' (LJ page) and his husky hunky pal ExcaliBear (LJ page).

This week Nard chats up with singer and songwriter Nakia (website). They discuss his new CD 'Playing the Cards' (CD available with samples here at CDBaby - and here's an excellent song for you to download - Texas Crescent Moon). I've been having these fantasies of Nakia singing only to me with only leather chaps on... is this wrong, doctor...?

And I gotta say, these podcasts shows are kind of like 'online heroin'... you listen to one and you need another one quick. Thankfully the guys over at BearPodCast keep churning them out real quick (I wonder if there is help for this, like P.A. ~ Podcast Anonymous... or something).

I am right now listening to some brand spankin' new Nakia... wha...? You haven't heard of Nakia? Oh brother, well he's this incredibly sexy looking Cub from Texas and his voice is like... well... it's like butter to bread... kinda like a Daddy Bear on top of his restless Cub... a bit like leather on sweaty fur - in other words - I'm hooked ~ fan for life.

Now it's my job to convince you guys on how good this guy is and I needn't work at all in convincing since his own voice will be plenty proof: here's a song from his new album called Texas Crescent Moon (and yes, I want to fall in love under a Texas sky... er... never mind me).

Now Nakia has just come out with a new CD. On February 17th, he released 'Playing The Cards'. To hear some samples as well as to buy it, go here (CDBaby). However, to keep up with all what this talented cutey is up to, then head on over to Nakia.net and go here to see some of his videos and listen to his jukebox. He's also in a band called Southern Cousins (MySpace), and to see a bunch of pics of this handsome lad, go here (FlickR)... phew... that's a lot of goodness from one cute Cub, ain't it...? And here's hoping we'll hear more from him in the future.
