It's almost that time again ~ another Bear Pride which is hosted by the Great Lake Bears of Chicago, Illinois. The event takes place on Memorial Day Weekend, from May 22nd thru May 25th.
From their site: "Being located in the third largest city in the US, Bear Pride offers the most urban of settings for this premiere event. Bear Pride 15 is set to celebrate the unique and welcoming character of 'The Windy City'. This celebration of the Bear community is front and center over the Memorial Day weekend, with special emphasis put on the history of Chicago as a major destination for the GLBT community. Great Lakes Bears, the sponsor club of Bear Pride, began in 1989 and holds a place as one of the oldest Bear organizations in the country".

It's a well known fact that the Bear world and the Leather world are, if anything, kissing cousins. The Bear community party sprung from the leather community back in the 80s... and tell me you do not get hard anytime you see some hot Daddy Bear all leathered up...?
But did you know there was actually a Leather Archives and Museum? Since '91 in Chicago. From their site: "In August 1991, the LA&M was incorporated in the state of Illinois. From that date until May 1993, the Leather Archives was, in effect, an idea struggling to take form. In '93, '94 and 95, the LA&M existed as a growing collection and appeared in public only as exhibits at International Mr. Leather in Chicago (plus a couple of abortive attempts to appear on the road). In fact, most members of the Leather Communities of the world - even in North America - were still unaware of the LA&M. In '96, a storefront home for the LA&M was opened in Chicago. Much larger exhibits were mounted in this space, but the collection outgrew the space very rapidly.
In July '97, Joseph W. Bean arrived to take on the job of Executive Director of the LA&M. Within three months, he had started a series of changing exhibits and proposed to the Board of Directors a capital campaign to raise funds to buy a building. The capital campaign was announced in December of '97, and met with immediate success.
The LA&M moved into its permanent home in late '99. The 10,000 sq. foot building provided for exhibits and the effective storage of the ever-growing collection of leather history. In January of '02, Joseph Bean retired from the LA&M, and then volunteer Rick Storer was hired to continue the work started by Bean and the entire leather community. In August of '04, the leather community made a $225,000 balloon payment to pay off the mortgage of the LA&M. Also during '04, the exhibit space was expanded from one 2,000 sq. foot gallery to a full building tour of eight galleries".

From the Bears on the Run site: "Over the last few years, outlets like Bear Radio Network, Bearapalooza and Woobie Bear Music, along with a host of supportive Bear runs, bars and podcasts, have given Bear musicians, songwriters and performers a place to share their talents. This fall, 6 performers will head out in a van for the 1st ever Bear tour which will span 12 cities and 7 states including Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma.
The tour is called Bears on the Run and showcases the talents of Bobaloo (a comedian from Los Angeles, CA - TubeBear profile), Kendall (a songwriter and performance artist from Buffalo, NY), Matthew Temple (a folk singer/songwriter from Nashville, TN), Nakia (a Blues singer/songwriter from Austin, TX), Elijah Black (a rock singer and songwriter from Akron, OH) and Shannon Grady (a singer and songwriter from Minneapolis, MN). Along for the ride will be two videographers who will capture performances as well as life backstage and on the road to be edited into a documentary.
The tour's founder Shannon Grady (a singer and co-host of the popular podcast bTALK) hopes that the tour will grow and open up doors for other Bear artists and find new audiences for their work".

It is right around the corner -
Bear Pride - an event hosted by the
Great Lake Bears of Chicago, IL. How far around the corner...? As in this upcoming weekend, from May 24th thru the 28th. They have recently put up a
message board up for those who are still looking for roommates and what not. Also, what's great about this weekend is that it coincides with
International Mr. Leather ~ so it's guaranteed you are going to see some super husky hunky burly Bears in full tilt leather, puffin' away on stogies and looking like they just don't care as they stare you down thru their dark sunglasses, tipping their leather Daddy master caps, slapping a glove on their thick thighs, and moving their boots about like they need a shining. Oh boy... hope all those attending Bear Pride have a good time. Take a ton of pics.

The other day while mentioning the
Great Lake Bear's upcoming event
Bear Pride, I also quickly pointed out the fact that IML -
International Mr. Leather - runs along Bear Pride during the same weekend (Memorial Day Weekend - May 24th-28th). Well, IML has completely redesigned their site. From their page "
We've redesigned from top to bottom... and at the moment we're still putting the photo galleries and past-year pages back together - so while those aren't available just now, we hope to have them for you very soon!". However, there is still a ton of info now, enough to make you decide whether or not you want to go.

The Great Lake Bears of Chicago, IL are planning to deliver hard with their upcoming Bear Pride which takes place during Memorial Day Weekend - May 24th thru the 28th. From their site: "This year’s theme is 'We Deliver!', as that is precisely what we shall do for you! We are planning exciting events that are not to be missed, including our Boystown bar crawl and no-less-than three fun-as-hell dance parties. Let us show you Midwestern hospitality in a way that only Bears can".
A little side note - IML - International Mr. Leather - is a huge event that occurs at the same time as Bear Pride, so truly, you can get the best of both the Leather and the Bear world, all in one weekend.
