A few months back, John David (photo) took the title of International Mr. Bear at IBR hosted by the Bears of San Francisco. This seriously handsome hunk sent in a few words of what he's been up to and what's up and coming for him. From John:

"Hey guys, just a note from the International Mr. Bear front. I have been very busy with several fund raising events in several different states. I have been working closely with the Imperial Court of Kentucky raising money for local charities and was named Leather Daddy of the Year by the court a few weeks ago. With the help of my Bear brothers we have built from the ground up 3 new Bear events one of which will be the first Mr. Virginia Bear/Cub contest in Virginia Beach at The In-Between on July 10th & 11th, and I am in the early stages of planning an appearance at Bear Pride, Cologne, Germany in November. With all of this the focus has to be raising awareness and funds for our charities. In a small city like Lexington, Kentucky that can be a challenge, however, all of the events I have gone to so far have displayed a great willingness to reach out to their communities and do their part and no effort can be too small, every little bit helps".

Put on your spurs and grab your lasso then get ready for the upcoming Bear Pride Cologne (website - articles) and this year's motif is 'Country Bears'. The event takes place in Cologne, Germany (Bear Capital) from November 18th thru the 23rd. This is a full week of Bear goodness.

"This year's International German Bear Pride Cologne offers all that a Bear world could ask for: fabulous parties, great dinners, interesting trips, cozy coffee parties, hot Bear saunas and a fantastic Bear show at the Bear Night with the Mr. Bear Germany contest. Each day of the week there will be a Bear sauna and Bear party. This year's theme 'Country Bears' will be presented by our incomparable Show-master Bernd von Fehrn".

Just recently I mentioned that the German BearFighter has updated his page with a bunch of new rugged images (website - articles - profile). Well he also sent in a very nice background image, something that could be used as a wallpaper (grab it here). It's a clipart from his collection. Make sure to check out his site. He is meticulous with the way he presents his subject, definitely one of my favourite photographers of Bears.

Bears... in the Alps...! Yes, this sounds like a ton of fun. Bearline Tours is organizing Bears in the Alps from March 5th from the 15th.

Shall we... Time Warp... once again...?

It's almost here - the international Bear Pride Cologne event which will be taking place in Germany from November 20th thru the 26th... that's a full week of being with some very handsome German Bears. This year's theme is 'Hairy Horror Picture Show'... I wonder how many Frank-n-Bears are gonna show up.

From their website: "Once again we welcome all Bears, Chasers, Chubbies, Leathermen and everyone else who loves hairy men from all over the world to Cologne. Come party with us and enjoy a whole week of pure 'Bear Feeling'.
The Cologne Bear Pride is one of the largest celebrations of the Bear community in the world. Join the Bears Club Stuggart for their upcoming Barentreffen, and from what they mention from their site, it looks like these guys are going to have a lot of fun events planned for those who attend. Things such as Bears at the Bath, Bulk Night, Underwear Party, and much more. Barentreffen will be taking place in Stuggart in Germany from September 27th thru to the 30th. As his Wikipedia page says, Ralf König is "is one of the best known and most commercially successful German comic book creators" which should be saying a lot to Bear lovers because many of Ralf's characters he draws are big, brawny, hairy and husky rough looking men... in other words, Ralf draws Bears a lot.

Now head on over to his website which has been completely redesigned and I believe that Ralf is celebrating 25 years of drawing because on his site, it says ~ '25 Jahre Knollennasen', so I put it into the Google translation, I got '25 years tuber noses' which means... well... I don't know since I don't know what a tuber nose is, but I figured Google's German just wasn't very good, so I put it in AltaVista's BabelFish translator, but I got the same response... I'm just going to pretend that Ralf is celebrating 25 years of producing some excellent drawings.

Time to be seduced by the husky DJ Niko Krist who is based in Germany and has been traveling from party to party spinning his music since 1984 (which is very Big Brother-ish...). There's some people who just love to pick up and go, get on a plane and land wherever the winds take them, and there's some who like to plan ahead; this is for those who like to plan.

They are called Bear World Travel and I am sure if you call them up and ask them any question about any of the packages they have to offer on their site, they will be happy to assist you... Do I sound like a secretary yet...? They have a bunch of gay and lesbian packages as well as some Bear packages such as the OktoBearFest with the Munich Bears ~ altho I think it might be a little too early to plan for that one (altho check out their pics from prior events, it just might help you decide for later).

Go on, make a vacation... you KNOW you need one.

The Rhein-Main-Bären group are having their German Bear & Leatherdays event which will be taking place in the Rhein area... I think... from March 23rd to the 25th. The reason why I'm not sure is... well... my German is non-existent and the whole site is in German, and since I'm Germanly-challenged (making up words now), I'm not really sure what these cute fuzzy Germans have in store for you, but I'm sure it's all about beer, Bears, shits and giggles (without the shits). If you want to visit the beautiful Rhein Main area, sign up for this event (and I only used the word German 5 times in this article... 6 now... with the title 7).

Everyone needs 'stuff...' (and I know a few who should get stuffed, but that'll be for another article). You get stuff when you go to the grocer or the drugstore, and I bet you even pick up a ton of stuff on the net. Then check out the German based site Bear-Stuff.de because they too have stuff you just might need and want. Just what do they have? Well, they have t-shirts, sweatshirts, baseball caps, magnets, dog tags, patches, pins, flags, jewelry, key chains, to name some.

Check out the Spreebären website to find out more about their BearVersions event which is taking place from April 5th thru the 9th in Berlin, Germany. From their site: "Easter in Berlin, you will find many 'versions' of Bears: big or slim bears, with or without facial or body hair, young Bears, Daddy Bears". Get 'Bearverted' and make plans to hit Germany this spring. There's only 14 days left to get your tickets for the upcoming Baerenpaadiie (and being dumb English guy, I have no clue how to pronounce that), an event hosted by the Nordbären. The run will be taking place in Hamburg, Germany from January 19th thru the 21st. And if you're curious as to what kind of good looking guys just might be attending, check out their galleries from prior events (and if my memory serves me right, the winner of IBR last year was from Germany... or that could have been 2005, my memory sucks).

I have to say that Ralf König (website) has to be one of the most underrated artists within Bear culture yet is one of the most popular cartoonists in Germany (Wikipedia). Very few people from North American know of him yet he's just such a brilliant cartoonist. I was first made aware of him when I rented the movie Killer Kondom which featured characters from his cartoon, and one character in particular is this uber cool Bear cop (played by Udo Samel) who's "gay and doesn't have an issue with it, dammit".

Back to Ralf - if you're feeling a little blue then head on over to his site and just check out a few of his comics. There's much more to see on the German section however there's enough on the English side to put a smile of your face hopefully (especially check out the FAQ section).

The Nordbären (or Nordbäeren) will be hosting Baerenpaadiie in Hamburg, Germany from January 19th thru the 21st, 2007. I took a quick peek at some pictures from Hamburg (Wikipedia) and wow, the place looks sexy. I'm sure the Bears are just as sexy. Check it out.
