It's a well known fact that the Bear world and the Leather world are, if anything, kissing cousins. The Bear community party sprung from the leather community back in the 80s... and tell me you do not get hard anytime you see some hot Daddy Bear all leathered up...?

But did you know there was actually a Leather Archives and Museum? Since '91 in Chicago. From their site: "In August 1991, the LA&M was incorporated in the state of Illinois. From that date until May 1993, the Leather Archives was, in effect, an idea struggling to take form. In '93, '94 and 95, the LA&M existed as a growing collection and appeared in public only as exhibits at International Mr. Leather in Chicago (plus a couple of abortive attempts to appear on the road). In fact, most members of the Leather Communities of the world - even in North America - were still unaware of the LA&M. In '96, a storefront home for the LA&M was opened in Chicago. Much larger exhibits were mounted in this space, but the collection outgrew the space very rapidly.

In July '97, Joseph W. Bean arrived to take on the job of Executive Director of the LA&M. Within three months, he had started a series of changing exhibits and proposed to the Board of Directors a capital campaign to raise funds to buy a building. The capital campaign was announced in December of '97, and met with immediate success.

The LA&M moved into its permanent home in late '99. The 10,000 sq. foot building provided for exhibits and the effective storage of the ever-growing collection of leather history. In January of '02, Joseph Bean retired from the LA&M, and then volunteer Rick Storer was hired to continue the work started by Bean and the entire leather community. In August of '04, the leather community made a $225,000 balloon payment to pay off the mortgage of the LA&M. Also during '04, the exhibit space was expanded from one 2,000 sq. foot gallery to a full building tour of eight galleries".

"Not many know the name Bear Omnimedia , though ask most any guy who loves masculine men with body hair and they'll recognize the name ButchBear . Bear Omnimedia is actually the parent company of Butch Bear®, BEAR® and Backroom Films®. These three studios make up the bulk of what Bear Omnimedia stands for: hyper-masculine, iconic men!

Butch Bear began around 2001, a few months prior to 9/11, and has grown to be a popular source for muscular men with hair. With its yearly calendar and increasing video line, it now meets that demand all around the world.

BEAR, a trademarked name, was added last fall and will present a broader range of hairy men with new videos (Cabin Fever is a new release which  came out a few months ago) and a soon-to-be-added library of classic bear films. A new 'BEAR Magazine' has also been in the works and will be unveiled later this summer.

Backroom Films is a new studio that focuses more on leather themes and those that are considered too edgy for the other brands. The first in this video line will be premiered at IML Chicago 2008 called 'House of Leather.

The websites for BEAR and Backroom Films are currently in-work".

The following was sent in by Paul D. Cannella, President and Mr. May of the Chicago Dragons RFC: "The Chicago Dragons Rugby Club recently published its first-ever calendar to help the club send its players, coaches and staff to Dublin, Ireland for Bingham Cup 2008. As you may already know, the Bingham Cup is the biennial championship of the International Gay Rugby Association & Board (IGRAB) and is named after Mark Bingham, a passenger on United 93 as well as a player on the San Francisco Fog, a fellow-member of IGRAB. Mark was to help found the New York City Gotham Knights when the events of September 11th, 2001 occurred. The Fog, who were due to host the next IGRAB championship in 2002, decided to rename the tourney after Mark and the Bingham Cup was born.

This Calendar is not only a School Year 2007-08 calendar but also a full 2008 item. The photography was done by Chicago photographer, Bret Grafton and the printing done by Mission Press Inc".

It is right around the corner - Bear Pride - an event hosted by the Great Lake Bears of Chicago, IL. How far around the corner...? As in this upcoming weekend, from May 24th thru the 28th. They have recently put up a message board up for those who are still looking for roommates and what not. Also, what's great about this weekend is that it coincides with International Mr. Leather ~ so it's guaranteed you are going to see some super husky hunky burly Bears in full tilt leather, puffin' away on stogies and looking like they just don't care as they stare you down thru their dark sunglasses, tipping their leather Daddy master caps, slapping a glove on their thick thighs, and moving their boots about like they need a shining. Oh boy... hope all those attending Bear Pride have a good time. Take a ton of pics.

This is not the Brady Bear Bunch - altho imagine what the show would have been like with these 6 talented good looking men... instead this team makes up a new ensemble of talent known as the 'Bears on the Run'. Their site is still in the making however this much I can tell you: this team is comprised of 6 artists (4 musicians, 1 performance artist and 1 comedian), and come this October, they will be traveling to Dallas, Austin, Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta, Nashville, Lexington, Columbus, Cleveland, Chicago and St. Louis. They are also seeking out sponsors so if you have a Bear friendly business and would be interested in sponsoring, then read this page to find out how you can become a sponsor.

Now to the important part - the good looking men who make up 'Bears on the Run'. Thanks to the Bear Radio website (which seems down at the moment), I'm discovering some talented Bear musicians, one of them being Chicago based Jeffrey Altergott - jeffreyaltergott.com. He has 3 albums out - Little Blue Record Player, Icarus Grounded and Runt, and from his news section, he is working on a new one... and he seems to be a jewelry maker (!). Maybe you should just head on over to Jeffrey's webpage and learn as well as listen more from his artist.
