Right at this moment, EBMC (European Big Men's Convergence - TubeBear PRO profile) is in full swing in Brussels, Belgium and will be rocking right thru until November 5th. The event is hosted by the Girth & Mirth Belgium club and their website is the well known BiggerWorld.com (TubeBear PRO profile).

All that being said, I want to timewarp back when the internet was a relatively unknown entity, back to 1994, back when a 14.4k was the hottest thing on the market. BiggerWorld was online and was one of the 1st websites for big men on and their admirers (SoundChaser being another site - website - articles - TubeBear profile) and it's popularity grew up until they had to shut down a lot of their features, such as the free galleries (more Biggerworld history here). 

I remember back then when I was visiting their site and I came upon one of their section that consisted of a 3D virtual world. Back in '95 there was a place called Alpha World (now called Active Worlds (website - Wiki) in which you could build your own home in a virtual space. I marvelled at BiggerWorld's virtual space because I had never experienced anything quite like that. Only a bit later did I discover games like Doom and Quake, yet it was BiggerWorld that introduced me to 3D virtuality.

Philippe from G&M Belgium informed me that the virtual world he created was destroyed by the owners of Alpha World, and as he stated, it was "a lot of work reduced to nothing" yet he did save some screenshots which he sent us. Click here to see them.

The following is from the EBMC site - European Big Men Convergence - which will be happening in Brussels, Belgium from October 31st thru November 5th and is hosted by Girth & Mirth of Belgium, the gents who run BiggerWorld: "EBMC is the oldest and one of the biggest yearly international event for Chubbies, Chasers and Bears in Europe. There some of us who adore Bears and there are some of us who love our bikes... but what about Bears on bikes...? Just the thought of husky rugged men in leather and boots cruising along the highway on their motorcycle just might make some of you salivate. Well here's a group for you European men - it's called Biker Bears of Belgium aka B3. Whether you speak Dutch or French, just check out their modest gallery and you'll see that mature good looks will override all languages anytime. And from their news section, they had their first 'ride-out' in April and it was a success... ok so they had 3 members but it's a new group so here's hoping more will join.

I remember the net back in the day when you surfed a page and you would see [image here] instead of the image because the computers at university couldn't handle images. It wasn't much longer that I got my own pc and was able to hook up to the net and see pics (it was a glorious moment), and one of the sites I remember visiting was BiggerWorld. I think this site was built before the net existed.

The site is actually the homepage for the Girth & Mirth group in Belgium and has undergone a myriad of designs over the past decade. The site is also the home for their EBMC runs (European Big Men Convergence) which take place in Oct/Nov. Lately the site looks like it's needs quite a bit of work (since so many pages are under construction) but there's still a few pages to check out while you're there.

Here's a question for you long time surfers - do you remember the BiggerWorld virtual Bear world? It was this 3D world where you walked about on streets and there were houses, trees, etc. The idea was to meet up with other cybersurfers in this world but since the net was so much smaller then, nobody ever used this service. I have no clue why I'm asking... I'm just feeling nostalgic, I guess.
