Back in August, Dan Hunt's Bear Run The Movie was aired on LOGO. Then in September, the DVD was available to purchase from their site. Here on PlanetBears, we've written a few articles concerning this documentary, yet I hadn't seen it. Now I have.
In a word ~ Wow...! Warning - spoilers below.
This movie chronicles the story of 3 'guys'. Why I put guys in parentheses is because you soon discover that one of the guys isn't really a guy at all.
One of them is a young Cub named Louie who grew up fat (his words), had a low self-esteem of himself, yet once he discovered the Bear world, he went on to winning some Bear and Cub titles. The second story is of another young man named Mike who grew up with the fear of God instilled into him and was told that being gay is considered a sin. Once he heard of the Bears, he too found himself, found a great man as well, and was able to shed that image of a God that hates fag to a God that accepts and loves him.
So far, both of these stories are touching, yet they aren't all that Earth shattering. Both Mike and Louie are very good looking, both are real nice guys and both seem to be living good lives all the while finding a comfortable niche within the Bear world.
Enter the 3rd 'Bear'... Mikhael. As I'm watching the story, I'm thinking... ok here's a married guy, to a woman, and he doesn't have sex with other men... I don't get it. Well, then the tiny bomb is dropped. I even said 'woah...' out loud, somet I rarely do while watching a movie. Mikhael had a sex change, and the more I looked (the more I scrutinized), the more I was stunned at how much Mikhael looked like a man, and not only a man, but a full fledged Bear. There is absolutely no way that I would have ever known the difference, not thru this video anyhow. They way Mikhael talks, walks, acts... everything... is manly... yet not overtly manly (as in macho)... just perfectly manly. This is a story of someone who always wanted to be a man and has dedicated their entire lives at working at it. Completely amazing.
Even Mikhael says he's not sure what he is, but the beauty in all this is that Mikhael has taken the reins to his own life and has overcome every single obstacle. Again wow.
Unfortunately, Mikhael's story seems to outshine the rest, and even though following Louie and Mike's lives were interesting, I just wanted to see more of Mikhael. However director Dan Hunt does a really great job at intertwining all of their stories and even bringing them to a head. You gotta get this documentary, it's a lot of fun to watch and it'll open your eyes, for sure.
Lastly ~ Dan gave me a link to a $5 discount. It's here.

On August 30th, Paul Blouin, owner of the Woof Bar & Bistro (website - articles - profile) held the 'Monsieur Bear Montréal' contest (articles - photos). This was the very 1st Bear contest that this great French Canadian city had ever seen. I (Forrest - profile) was there and I filmed the event as well as livestreamed it - both here on PlanetBears as well as on TubeBear. The livestreaming had a bunch of kinks of it (disconnection, sound issues) so I was glad that I filmed it.
I also kind of convinced my partner and hubby, Roger (galleries - profile) to be a contestant. He was reluctant at first, thought it over, then agreed to do it. He was nervous and anxious the whole week prior to the contest, yet once he got up there, he was a natural.
The video is just under 10 minutes long. Originally it was 16 yet I decided to edit it down, and this way I was able to place it here as well, on my YouTube page - BearGhetti. Hope you enjoy it.

From Got Fur?: "We've been oh so busy. We've been building leather links and the leather calendar over at The Twisted Bear. We have been making nice to all of our Bear friends to get them to donate items for the Silent Auction at Lazy Bear. And, we are packing up to head to the rodeo to wrangle some cowboys - Sierra Stampede Rodeo.
We will be making our debut on LOGO during movie night at Lazy Bear... well sort of. We are featured in the documentary 'Bear Run' which debuts on LOGO on August 2nd. This feature is produced and directed by Dan Hunt - who previously produced the 'In The Life' (PBS) story on the Bear community.
And for the record - you are a very naughty dirty Bear! In the last issue of Chewin' the Fat we gave away copies of 'Prime Cut IV' (website - article) and you told us you want more free naked Bears. Check out this week’s give away on Chewin’ the Fat for more naked Bears. Did I mention naked Bears? LOL".

Over at FunFur.tv, they believe that "the future's big. The future's hairy!" which is one fine motto. This is one site you're just going to love. It has a ton of short video clips filled with British humour with the actors being some very good looking husky British Bears. There are also a few clips which border on Bear documentary yet are equally entertaining.
Right now they have some new videos up from Brighton Pride. In order to view the clips, you need to register which is free and fast and view them from the web, and now you can even buy their clips at a single dollar apiece, download them and watch them anytime you want.
