From COL: "we're looking for Bears, Cubs, Otters, Chasers, et al. from around the US, hell, the world to blog on COL about the Bear Community. COL Bloggers who also have a podcast can post their podcast on the site as well. I really do want to make this the One Stop Bear Shop for the entire Bear community. The following is from Les Wright - editor of The Bear Book I and The Bear Book II: "Artists and writers who celebrate, investigate, chronicle, explore, or otherwise engage creatively with Bears - Bear identity, Bear community, Bear culture, Bear sensibility – are welcome to submit a proposal to participate in Ursology 2008, a two-hour salon, consisting of a reading and display of original works of art.

For the second year in a row, Ursology, the Bear literary and arts salon, will take place during IBR . That’s Saturday, February 16th at Holiday Inn on Van Ness Avenue, the host hotel in San Francisco.

Ursology 2008 is being organized by Les Wright, founder and curator of the original Bear History Project (Nashoba Institute) and of the Bear Icons and beyond art exhibitions (1999-2002). Proposals, samples of writing or artwork, all inquiries may be sent to the organizer via email (note: a 'placeholder' webpage can be found at BearHistory.com ).

Individuals interested in becoming involved in the development of future Ursology programs or the redevelopment of the Nashoba Institute and the Bear History Project are encouraged to contact Les, and to consider attending a planning meeting immediately following the 2008 salon".

Now, if you're not sure what a Bear is, or if you have questions concerning the Bear community (Bear Culture), a good place to start would be to check out Wikipedia's article here.

However, if your back hairs are easily raised when someone has something offensive to say about the Bear world, then maybe you shouldn't read this article from Encyclopedia Dramatica. From AD: "What ISN’T a bear? This is one of those completely useless and asinine questions that will clutter message boards and antiquated mailing lists for all of eternity. Simply asking will get you scoffed at derisively, laughed at, made fun of, told to shut the hell up, and given tons of haughty opinions, but not a real answer. A bear is a (usually) faggot who (often) has emphasized secondary sex characteristics such as (frequently) facial and body hair as well as a (most of the time) larger body frame. The bear scene is (sort of) a niche of the gay community that (originally) was an alternative to the shallow mainstream of gay culture that (from a certain view point) only accepted certain body types. Ironically, the bear scene now does the exact same thing, just with a different body type (sometimes)".

Phew...? And look, they even mention my old site - bear-pics: "A website where attention whores could post pictures and movies of themselves having sex with obese men and forever shame their families". Such flattery.
