Bubba of Bubbaclicks is informing us that his newest 'Bear Men 2009 Calendar' (cover) is now available. You can grab yourself a copy at Amazon (here) or at 10percent (here with photo examples of the models) and at Amazon (here). It is also available at some other smaller websites and in local gay retailers.
Bubba is already working on his 2010 calendar (this guy is way organized... I need to pay him just for some organizational skills). From Bubba: "I am in the process of shooting my 2010 calendar right now and also working on a cub calendar too. I will be at Bear Bust this year in Orlando.... anyone coming to Fort Lauderdale and looking for pictures or possibly being in a calendar or magazine, should hit me up".

It's so much fun cleaning out old folders because I keep finding gems within them. I found a few photos of John aka TarotBear (PlanetBears' Gallery) that I didn't add to his gallery, so I figured I'll add them now, and even make them public. These pics were taken June '02 and it's photos of John in Montreal - at Man and his World (Expo '67) and in Old Montreal. Check 'em out here.
I haven't kept in touch with John, unfortunately. I did work on his site TarotBear.com in '03, however at some point he took the site down and right now there is nothing there. He did publish a book in '04 about Tarot reading entitled 'It's All in the Cards' (Amazon).

Does anyone remember 'The Bear Handbook' (cover)? The full title is: 'The Bear Handbook: A Comprehensive Guide for Those Who Are Husky, Hairy and Homosexual, and Those Who Love 'Em'. Now that's a mouthful.
It was written by the extremely cute Ray Kampf (image) and published in 2000. It was a highly talked about book at the turn of millenium, both on Bear websites and on the now defunct 'Bear's Mailing List'. There was even a site for it (also defunct), and Ray had also had a Bear page (all pics have been removed) linked from his main site Artwhore.
so yes, 8 years have gone by, however it's still available on Amazon (everything including your grandfather is available on Amazon) and you can see a really cool preview of it on Books.Google.com. It's just fun to go back into our 'Bear history' and remember what came before that brought us to where we are now.

A couple of weeks ago I posted an
article about some reviews from Bears ~ The Movie (MySpace
page ~
poster ~
trailer). All of the reviews were positive. I haven't seen the movie and I guess I'm just going to have to wait until the DVD comes out of maybe it will be available on the net at some point. However, here's another more in-depth review from Les Wright (
Bear Book I,
Bear Book II,
Bear History Project). Here's a snippet from Les'
blog: "
The climax of each IBR is the International Mr. Bear competition, and as Bears documents, service and fun combine to make for a strenuous run for the sash. As long-time emcee, the late Lurch (who appears in Bears) was always wont to say, 'Everyone who runs is already a winner'. The competition culminates with the bestowal of four separate titles. The 2004 contestant base offers a typical mix of Bearish types in friendly competition. Some, such as Mr. So Cal Bear, build upon a natural sense of showmanship and competitive spirit, while others demonstrate their own flavor of natural bear spirit. Mr. Kentucky Bear is a former Marine and horse-breeder, a 'man's man', who would have been a natural for the leather community of a previous generation, and Mr. New York Bear, a bagpipe-playing, big-boned, and even bigger-hearted blond, who epitomizes (unself-consciously) much of the open-hearted, compassionate, fun-loving, even civic-minded 'inclusivity', which was the original hallmark and rallying cry of the Bears back in the 1980s".

There's a warning on the front page of Tagame's website which reads "Recognize the distinction between actuality and fantasy!" and I really hope most people do because his work is way beyond any S&M drawings I've ever seen. Dismemberment is kind of... freaky...? scary...? fucking evil? All I know is that I feel like buying a metallic jockstrap after visiting Tagame's site.
He also draws less violent stuff and he is a professional, there's no doubt about that, and a lot of his work involve husky hairy Bearish men that are fine and easy on the eye... and a lot of them are tied up and struggling with their binds.
In other news: Tagame also has a new comic book out. I'm not sure what it's called but you can grab here (Japanese Amazon). Also, his work will be displayed in a Paris show up until April 30th. More info at ArtMenParis.

After being down for a year or so, the Bear History Project page is up, altho right now there is only a 'coming soon' page... which is a good thing. For those who do not know, the Bear History Project is run mostly by Les Wright, author of Bear Book I (Amazon) & II (Amazon again). Les has collected a ton of Bearish paraphernalia and I believe one day he wishes to have all of it displayed at some point. In any account, it's good news to see BHP back up.

Singer, songwriter LD Beghtol of LD & The New Criticism has put out a book called 69 Love Songs - A Field Guide (MySpace page - Amazon page). From his site: "69 Love Songs - A Field Guide is a fully illustrated history of the Magnetic Fields' (website) 1999 triple-disc, 69 Love Song. LD Beghtol's book is chatty, incestuous, funny, dark, digressive, sexy, maddening, and delightful in equal measures".
On a personal note, I have the 69 Love Song compilation (Amazon page) and it's truly brilliant. LD sings and plays on a few of the tracks, and here's one classic song from this boxset - it's called All My Little Words and it's LD who sings this.
You said you were in love with me
Both of us know that that's impossible
And I could make you rue the day
But I could never make you stay

I have been a fan of LD Beghtol since the very first time my ears heard his sweet soothing voice. That was back when he was with his band Flare. He has since moved on to form LD & The New Criticism. They have one CD out called Tragic Realism which you can pick up on Amazon (right here) or directly thru the label (darla.com and here's a little MP3 sample from their site).
LD informs us that there will be a new 6 song EP which will be out in March. Head on over to their MySpace page ~ TheNewCriticism to find out more info as well as listen to more of their music (smash my skull ~ with a hammer... splatter my brains ~ to show ~ how you care... just singing along to the lyrics of 'When We Dance').

The following is from Dale Lazarov, writer of Sticky (Amazon, Wikipedia): "Sticky is a hardcover collection of erotic tales of MuscleBear carnality and sweetness written by Dale Lazarov and drawn by Steve MacIsaac. "This is why your mom didn't want you reading so many comic books," says Unzipped. "What's cool about Sticky's man-on-man comic action is that it's not just hot, it's also friendly, and, well, versatile.
"Sexy, stylish, minimalist... an intense mixture of erotic realism and the freedom of comics storytelling makes Sticky pleasure to have in one hand" - Clive Barker, author of Hellraiser.

Kevin Bullimore has published his very first novel which is entitled Bikerwolf and it is available here on Amazon. It's all about werewolves and motorcycles. Looks like a really interesting read.
Book Description (from Amazon.com): "Tom never could fathom out just what it was that had made him suspicious of his new lodger. It wasn't the fact that he seemed to be welded to his motorbike, or the funny accent made him wary. It was perhaps the fact that ever since Luke moved in things started to happen that turned Tom's quiet life upside down. For Tom the truth was both earth shattering and life threatening. What do you do when you suspect that your lodger and friend happens to be a werewolf? Set against the backdrop of the historic city of York and the Yorkshire countryside, the story unfolds until all the characters converge over the moors to Whitby, where justice and retribution will be meted out. The only question is... to whom?".
