Here's some news from the Russian front. Here's what's been happening in the wonderful creative world of Alexei Biryukoff (website - articles - profile). From Alexei: "2008 was a very busy and productive year for me. I was working mainly on the music and sound projects with 2 collaborations with other musicians as well as making a soundtrack for the 3D animation film 'Tamara and Demon'. I actually got flooded with the sound art proposals, which is exciting!
However the major event of the year was that I finally visited the USA (after previously being rejected twice by the embassy). I was sponsored by the art organization CEC ArtsLink in New York, and spent 5 week in the artist residency at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA. This resulted in a solo show at their local gallery. I travelled around Massachusetts and across the country to see California. Everywhere I went I was lucky to have beautiful weather and met lots of nice amazing people and made a few new friends.
Finally, I have updated my website with the new works I did during the year and 16 of them were painted in the States. Check them out here".

Some news to share from Russian artist and composer Alexei Biryukoff - website - pic - this year he informs us that he has been working mostly on his music and he's finally decided a name for his act - Muhmood.
His Muhmood profile has been featured on Noisehead and he's asking you to go over to his profile page, grab some of his music and to vote for him. There are some tracks on Noisehead that he has not uploaded on his site yet, however you should definitely check out his music page and download his tracks there. One of my favourite songs is called Why. It has a truly unique song.

These words are from Russian artist Alexei Biryukoff (website): "Always have thought that diaries and blogs are an attribute of maniacs and lazy bones, or just people who are too much in love with themselves and their own thoughts... looks like I am becoming one of them and want to welcome you to my blog". As well, he has made a separate page for his music right here (and I'm loving his song why).

You can definitely lose yourself in all the worlds that Alexei Biryukoff has created. He's an intense artist in Russia who enjoys partaking in the vastness and multifacetedness (probably not a word, I know) that encompasses all things artful. Aside from his music and his sometimes politically charged art shows (his Naked Loneliness show was closed by his local gov't), he does some great Bear Art (or perhaps Husky Art). And after reading his 'About' page, Alexei is one of those rare artists who actually enjoys what he creates as opposed to all those moody and pessimistic artists who curse their own crafts.
From his site: "I respect very much those artists who choose to work on one motif or in the same technique over and over again, like Rothko or Cezanne, who painted the same mountain a hundred times. This approach is probably the most honest one and this is something I will definitely do when I grow older… Meanwhile I prefer not to bind myself by one technique but choose a certain theme and live with it for a year or more, reading and thinking about it, working on it day after day and see what it would dictate to me... It is very much like a journey – I am visiting a certain place that burns my mind, moves my thoughts and emotions, and makes me want to say something back. I keep doing that till I am exhausted, but every time this happens I realize that I cannot exhaust the theme I am working on, it is inevitably the other way round.
Art is a game, with no restrictions or rules to play. Just play away and enjoy the freedom. Make your every step an act of art, make people see ordinary things from new angles, be serious, play, then mix it all up and see if anybody understands what you are doing...".
