Montreal Bear Soup

The long running Bear soup in Montreal has a new location. BearJacq (profile) informed me that they have now moved their Bear Soup over to Sauna Ste-Cath on Ste-Catherine street from 5PM until midnight the very first Saturday of each month. The first soup will be tomorrow - July 4th - so hop into the soup and let the slurping begin.

SpookyBear Weekend

Beware of things that go woof in the night at the Northeast Ursamen are present their upcoming SpookyBear Weekend which will be taking place from October 31st thru November 2nd at Provincetown, Massachusetts. The Northeast Ursamen are from Connecticut and are one of oldest Bear groups around, founded in 1992.

How to start a morning: find the slippers, get the coffee, open computer, read The Woofington Post. Do this every morning and you'll be a Bear in the know. It's a new blog and it's the "source for all things big & furry with special focus on the New York City scene". They are also seeking contributors for topical info for the NYC area including "nightlife, photography, restaurants, bear runs, politics, businesses and more". When Dave and I first spoke about doing some photos together for the gallery section of PlanetBears, he asked me - "do I have to do nudes?"... and I said "it's up to you...", so Dave decided that this being a 1st time for him to be photographed, he'll wait. And you know, he's a tease, heheh, these photos we took are very teasing. However, he's ubernatiously cute and I really liked working with him. Actually it would be fun to see Dave in a Bear spy flick :)

Atlanta Bear Fest

It's just right around the corner, it's Atlanta Bear Fest (ABF) hosted by the Southern Bears and it's all gonna take place in Atlanta, Georgia during the 4th of July weekend. You can't ask for better...

The Southern Bears are one of the oldest Bear clubs around being together for more than 16 years. They've also been getting a lot of good coverage in the press, like this article written about them and ABF in Southern Voice. Also, you will see their story in the upcoming David Magazine as they are getting both the cover story and a center spread (with cute Bears!).

Here are some updates regarding ABF: day passes are now available; 2 optional events at Mary's bar have been added - a pre-party 'The Honey Pot' on Wednesday's and 'Bear Happy Hour' on Friday night. Find out more here.

They have created a newsletter for those who wish to keep up to date with ABF and future runs.

And remember, Rich McGunn (photo - articles) will be there. This model is on the current cover of BEAR Magazine issue #67 (website - articles - cover - profile) and he'll be hanging out with them Southern Bears while fireworks burst all about ya'll (I'm a Canadian, I shouldn't really be saying ya'll).

BearCity ~ The Movie

There is a new movie in the making and it's going to be called BearCity... not only that, but they are casting. From their site they state that BearCity is going to be "the hirsute version of 'Sex and the City'. BearCity follows the funny, romantic and sometimes drama-charged adventures of a group of Manhattan Bears and Cubs as they gear up for a big Bear party weekend".

And yes, they are casting. Check out the type of characters they are looking for and then send in a headshot, and you never know, you just might be a very Beary superstar...! And thanks to Bearotic (website - article) for the scoop about this extremely cool upcoming flick.

Hope you don't scare easy because there's an event that promises to raise the fur off your back. It's the 1st Annual Beary Scary Weekend which is going to take place in Palm Springs, CA from October 29th thru November 1st.

"A four day weekend leading up to the last gay pride of the year in the United States. Starting with the famous Bear Koffi on Thursday night, a costume contest and dance Friday evening at Fur Friday at Hunters Patio Bar and a late night after dark pool party, the spooky splash pool party on Saturday at The Canyon Club Resort & Hotel with a BBQ lunch, and pumpkin carving contest".

Canadian Comedian Richard Ryder (website - articles - profile) is going to be busy this weekend. In conjunction with Toronto Pride, he will be hosting 'Homo Night in Canada' tonight - Saturday, June 27th. It's part of the Buddies in Bad Times Theatre and it's Toronto's Annual Pride show and fundraiser featuring some of the best queer performers and comedians from across Canada and the USA. then on Sunday, June 28th, he will be the Main Stage Host.

Harbour City Bears

Here's a few words from Jon Bastin, the President of the Harbour City Bears. From Jon: "The Harbour City Bears are based in Sydney, Australia and will be celebrating its 15th year in 2010. The club has nearly 500 members. On Sunday July 12th there is the 'Bear Factory' (poster) - a party that promises to produce 'hot and happy Bears'. Then on August 22nd, there is Chunky (poster) - a party for 'beefy Blokes, furry Studs, cute Cubs and hot Daddies'.

Each Australian summer the club welcomes guests from interstate and overseas to its Bear Essentials festival held to coincide with the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras festival. Bear Essentials 14 runs from February 26th to March 7th 2010 and events include: The launch with the Lord Mayor of Sydney; Bear Artspace, showcasing Bear and Cub Australian artists; An international Meet and Greet bar night; Bears beach day at Bondi Beach; The infamous UnderBear Party at the Oxford Art Factory, and; The Wett Fur Pool Party at one of the city’s main aquatic centers".

Bears of Toronto

If ever you have plans to come and visit Canada, and more precisely Toronto, then make sure to hook up with the Bears of Toronto. They are a relatively young group, being founded in 2006, yet they are an active bunch that raises funds for charity groups like FIFE. And this weekend (June 27th - 28th), the Bears of Toronto will have a booth at the Pride Parade, so head on over and support them cute cuddly Canadian Bears.

Flashes Before Your Eyes ~ Sinister Bears

Bam... Boom... Pow... Wham (Holy Bat Bear!)... you see Flashes Before Your Eyes... and welcome to Daniel's world in which you will find some very delightful Sinister Bears, among a whole bagful of other interesting tidbits.

It's a brand new blog about Bears and comic books, all deriving from the creative mind and fingers of Daniel ~ a 28 year Spaniard out in Cadiz, Spain who's got a cool quick eye for cute Bearish men. His site is mostly in Spanish however he has been translating some of it to English lately which is great for a Canadian like me. Go check out his stuff, it's a lot of fun.

By the way, I got the Boom Boom Pow not from the old Batman show, but by the Black Eyes Peas (website - video) - it's their first single from their latest CD - the E.N.D.. And like Fergie sings, she likes that Boom Boom Pow and she's 3008 and I'm so 2000 and late... whatever the hell that means!...

Northeast Ursamen

One of my favourite Bear activists Joe Mannetti (aka Joe Falconi - photo - articles - profile) travelled all the way from one end of the US (California - his hometown) to go to Connecticut to be with the Northeast Ursamen (photo), one of the oldest Bear groups around (founded in 1992).

Joe had nothing but good to say about these guys. From Joe: "The Northeast Ursamen were selected by the public as the 'Best Bear Club/Organization' in the 'Best of the Bears' poll conducted by The Complete Bear website, and after this weekend I can see why very clearly. This is a group of Bears who are as dedicated to brotherhood and supporting each other and the community. The positive energy and warmth that the Ursamen exude is genuine. There was never a shortage of hugs or team spirit. Whether we were gathered together for a fundraising event, outreach, or a great meal the loyalty and dedication towards achieving the best outcome was always there! Kudos to their A-list Board and an outstanding collection of members who always put their best foot forward with everyone they meet and everything that they do for the community".

Vermont Bear Film Festival

Send in your shorts (or longer) movies to the upcoming 5th annual Vermont Bear Film Festival. Winner will receive the coveted PAW award and $200 and is invited expenses paid to present their film on the Pride of the Ocean. The winner will also be featured in 'Shorts from the Vermont Bear Film Festival' DVD. The deadline to submit is July 30th and the festival will be taking place in Guilford, Vermont on August 14th and 15th. The theme this year is 'Boot Camp'. BearFilms have sent us some pics from their most recent photo shoot. The model's name is Clint Taylor from Mandeville, Louisiana. He's 44, 5'10'' tall and weighs 210 lbs with brown hair and hazel eyes. From Clint: "Beefy or muscle Bears get a big WOOF. I also like men that are into Leather, Latex, Rubber and Kink!". Blowoff is where you will find Bob Mould (website - blog) and Richard Morel (website - blog) in their new pop-rock duo. These guys have been pumping out a bunch of music and they put on big events in NYC, SF and Chicago, usually around the same time a major Bear event is going on. Some upcoming events are dated for July 4th in conjunction with Atlanta Bear Fest (website - article - profile) and then July 14th for Bear Week (website) in Provincetown.

Cub McCallister

The last time I mentioned Cub McCallister (website - MySpace - article), I stated he is a real cute author who's written a small slew of novels all the while changing genre from book to book. Well since then he's created a whole shopping center on his webpage. You can get yourself t-shirts, hats, mousepads, even aprons for those who like to eat (what...? Bears eat?), undergarments and more. And not to forget: all those interesting books he's written.
