There's a lot of buzz about BEAR magazine coming back. It was in 2001 that Brush Creek Media sent out their last issue #64, then they went out of business.
So the 1st question is - are you guys in any way associated with the now defunct Brush Creek? In other words, who are you guys...?
Bear Omnimedia LLC (bearomnimedia.com) is a mega Bear-owned company that continues to expand within the Bear Universe. Our soldiers in this forward-movement are Butch Bear (butchbear.com), Backroom Films and the new BEAR (bear-magazine.com). Butch Bear was the first brand that was established in 2000 that showcases hyper-masculine, iconic men and has grown into a GAYVN award winning adult studio with videos sold worldwide. Backroom Films is our new edgy brand with an emphasis on leather and fetish. BEAR will continue the tradition of hot, Bear men with new and classic products.
Now that we're acquainted, let's get real in 5 easy steps: 1) We now own the trademark and copyrights for BEAR Magazine; 2) We have NO affiliation with the former publisher, Brush Creek Media, Inc.; 3) We were one of many creditors that Brush Creek left hanging; 4) We had the balls to sue Brush Creek and obtained a judgment in that lawsuit and; 5) We eventually acquired an assignment of the Brush Creek copyrights in satisfaction of our judgment.
That's all sounds impressive and rather aggressive. What's up with that?
Must be the testosterone talking! We aim to give men what they really want and bring it to the world. That's definitely a worthy agenda.

So just how did you guys acquire the brand name BEAR?
The BEAR trademark lapsed when Brush Creek folded its cards. Again, we were the only company with enough balls to bid for the trademark at the US Trademark and Patent Office. The government originally rejected our application contending that the term 'BEAR' had become a generic term for any hairy, gay man. On appeal, we argued that BEAR was poetic, a simile and an imaginative descriptor for a constellation of masculine characteristics that superseded the government's narrow view. Can you imagine arguing 'What is a BEAR?' in court? Well, while the ultimate BEAR question remained unresolved, the ultimate legal result was that we succeeded in the appeal and obtained the registered trademark.
BEAR Magazine started out in 1984 as a small Xerox-copied flyer in San Francisco. This was back before there was such a thing as Bear culture.
Today, almost 25 years later, Bear has become huge - off and online. This means that you guys have some really big boots to fill. So... just what do you gents have in store with the new BEAR mag?
LOL! We prefer to think we are filling big jocks instead of 'big shoes'...
In fact, we were originally on the cutting edge of the Bear Movement personally and remain in the mainstream of it now. We aim to carry on and evolve the BEAR tradition established by the original publisher by offering new erotic DVDs, a re-launch of BEAR Magazine with fresh content (print and online), and eventual republication of certain classic video titles originally released by Brush Creek.

The word (or concept) 'Bear' has come to define so many different types of men as well as looks. Those who have come to associate with 'Bear' are essentially differentiating themselves with 'Gay'. However the flip side to this is that Bear is all-inclusive - meaning - you can be a skinny twink who likes really big guys and belong to a Bear club and you're considered a Bear. However, skinny guys are more GQ models. Here's the question - what kind of models and what kind of men can we expect to see in BEAR mag?
The new BEAR Magazine is not that political. Instead of telling people, we believe the better view is to simply reflect what we consider iconic, rather in the tradition of 'Tom of Finland'. You know it when you see it. We simply and humbly will bring our audience consistently high-quality images of traditionally masculine men, whatever Bear body type they may be.
Where will be able to find the magazine, what kind of distribution do you have in store (as in, number of mags sent out), what do I do if I want to subscribe, and if I want to advertise with you, who do I contact?
The first issue will run approximately 40,000 copies circulated for free to major Bear events, adult bookstores, bars, online and via our large mailing list; nationally and internationally. At some point we will start accepting subscriptions. Initially, this will be a semi-annual, though we would like it to accelerate to quarterly as soon as possible.
For anyone who wants to receive the premiere issue, they can signup at the bear-magazine.com. The issue is FREE, you only pay the postage! For advertising information, email Teddy.
